I suppose now is as good of a time as any to post the first English language match thread here. There appears to be some optimism with the direction of JC & the appointment of VB; Ajax just capped off a big weekend and it now appears that this match still means something. I believe that Setanta USA is airing this match on Monday March 10...but I will be trying to make arrangements to catch this one live somehow. Sopcast perhaps?

There is definitely some optimism from our side concercing this game, JM. And with good reason. PSV's form isn't as impressive as their recent results imply. This and the fact that they have a very tough away game against Tottenham on Thursday means that Ajax have a good shot in my opinion.

I am however concerned about the games coming after Sunday. I really don't see Ajax winning every single game with away matches against Heerenveen, Groningen and Twente ahead. PSV will have to drop at least 9 more points in the upcoming 7 games.

Agreed. My temporary optimism is very tempered. The schedule is not in our favor...I'm just happy to have some excitement after how things looked a few weeks ago.

How are we looking as far as fitness & suspensions?

Well, Gabri and Huntelaar we're the only two players up for a suspension with their next yellow card and they didn't get one against Excelsior. Our two Uruguayans, Bruno Silva and Suárez, sat out their suspension against Excelsior, so we don't have any suspended players.

As far as injuries are concerned, Heitinga has been bothered by a minor muscle injury, but it looks like a sure bet that he will play. Perez and Colin were left out of the squad against Excelsior due to illness, but I assume that they'll be match fit if they're needed. Ajax have decided to take it very easily with Van der Wiel. I'm not expecting him back in first team action before the playoffs which is a pitty, but he's the only player we'll be missing next Sunday as things look now. So keep your fingers crossed.

It's a good thing, but it also means that Koster has a few tough decisions to make. There's no real reason to change anything in goal or at the back, but there's a lot of competition in midfield and up front. Ajax can play with a holding midfielder in between/behind the two halves or with an attacking midfielder in front of them. If Koster chooses the first option, these are probably his options:

--------------------Lindgren
Gabri/De Jong----------------Davids/De Jong

This could mean that Perez will become an option up front.

If he chooses the second option, there are other choices he'll have to make:

Gabri-----------Davids/Lindgren
----De Jong/Perez

In my opinion, Perez is no longer an option for the role as an attacking midfielder. Which brings me to the attack. Assuming that Koster will play three forwards, he has tons of options, most of which haven't played up to standards. Huntelaar seems to be the only safe bet for him, eventhough Suárez would be for me as well. Anyhow:

Rommedahl/Kennedy/Leonardo/Suárez--Huntelaar--Suárez/Emanuelson/Leonardo/Perez

Anyway, just some extra info on this match. Feel free to ask us anything. I'll make time to help you get your weekly feed of Ajax. Hopefully you and the moderators can find us some more English speaking members. <img src='smilies/icon_wink.gif' />

The match will most probably not take place because of the police going on strike.

Quite disappointing. I felt the time was right to play this match. I hope the points still matter when it is rescheduled.
