Ajax coach, Foppe de Haan is proud of his players’ gutsy performance in the Cape Derby against Santos on Friday evening.

The Urban Warriors persevered with 10 players for most of the game taking a 3-1 lead into the break.

Santos fought back to draw level but Ajax were not finished yet when Thulani Serero scored a stunning goal from 25 yards out, hitting the ball into the top right hand corner to give Ajax a 4-3 win.

De Haan said, “We played really well on the night, even after Hlatshwayo was sent-off you could not see that we were a man short. In fact we scored two more goals before the halftime break.

The players showed their quality to take the game to Santos especially after the sending-off. Thulani’s goal was a real good one and worthy of the winning goal in a game like this.

To play with 10 men for so long, take the lead and come back to snatch a win took lots of character from the team.

They showed on Friday that they have the courage to challenge for honours this season.”
